Current state of conservation |
2006-2007: External protection grids were removed, deoxidized, protected and painted. All the panels were taken down, flattened, and cleaned (distilled water and ethyl alcohol [50:50] on cotton wool swabs). Grisaille painting was pre-fixed and fixed where necessary (Paraloid B72 in acetone [8%]). Glass fragments were bound with Paraloid B72 in acetone (60%)and small gaps filled in with fired painted glass, Iron tie bars directly soldered onto the panel were unsoldered and removed, and copper ties soldered instead. Tinted glazier's putty was locally applied in order to streghten and waterproof the panel. Reinstalled using new brass tie bars, lime-based mortar (sides and bottom) and glazier's putty (top, along saddle bar above). External protection grids were reinstalled. Company: IN SITU. Conservator: Raquel Fonseca dos Santos. |
